Macedonian-Turkish vocal extraordinaire, Mesut Kurtis, is one of the biggest stars of nasheed and Islamic music. He sings in Turkish, Arabic, English, Bosnian and Albanian. Mesut discovered his love for music as a child, when he would frequently perform with music groups in local social clubs, mosques, and conferences.
Mesut released his first album – Salawat –in 2004. His uniquely strong voice and soulful songs earned him a large and loyal fan base, which multiplied manifold after the music video release of his rendition of ‘Burdah’, the thirteenth-century ode of praise for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The music video, filmed on a location in the islands off the coast of Turkey, has garnered 34 million views to date.
In 2009, Mesut made history by releasing his second album – Beloved – at the Jeddah branch of Virgin Megastore, Saudi Arabia; the first time such an event took place in the country’s history. His third album – Tabassam (smile) – followed in Ramadan 2014. The album featured 12 sensational tracks, including a duet with global superstar, Maher Zain.
Following the increasing popularity of his concerts, Mesut joined forces with MBC – the largest private free-to-air satellite broadcasting company in the Middle East & North Africa – to participate in the production of operetta, ‘Wa Alayka Ya Habib al-Salam’, a biography of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which aired to audiences in September 2012. The operetta is considered the largest religious artwork in terms of production and the number of participating creatives to date.
After a much-awaited return, Mesut released his fourth and latest album – Balaghal Ula – in May 2019. Featuring 13 tracks and duets with special artists, including Raef, Ali Mogrebi, Mohamed Nour and Inteam. The album release followed with four music videos, shot across Malaysia and Tunisia, including UNESCO World Heritage town, Kairouan.
